John and Margaret Hagen and sons Pat and Christopher are suddenly house hunting after Sunday night’s rain and wind storm tore off a large section of their mobile home roof.
Pat, younger brother Christopher and friend Marc Ponsetti were in a back room watching a movie at 2809 Willow Loop when they heard a gust of wind, which shook the house a little, but made little noise.
Marc went to the refrigerator around 6:30 for a drink and returned, breaking the news that the roof was off.
“I just thank God the children weren’t hurt,” Margaret said on Monday, cleaning and moving boxes.
Margaret and John were in town buying cat food for a new pet, and the home was undergoing some remodeling when the roof was peeled off.
Margaret’s sister Deon Swan is leading a drive to give the Hagens food, furniture and money. National Bank and Grace Methodist Church are accepting donations.
“I am asking for the public to please pull together and help this military family get back on their feet,” Swan said. “They have no renter’s insurance.”
The Hagens can be called at 258-0448, or 258-0449.
