Revising the Coryell County employees handbook to update the information in it, setting up a manual for procedures for roads, recycling, joining the Fox Crossing Water District and fixing structural problems at the annex and jail were among the topics of discussion at the first workshop meeting of the Coryell County Commissioners.
Last month the commissioners voted to meet in workshop on the off weeks from the commissioners meetings to discuss and work out details of possible future agenda items.
The employee vacation plan was again revised to reflect the six-month probationary period. Vacation time would still be based on time of service, but no time could be used until after the probation.
All full time employees will receive vacation time on Jan. 1 of each year. An employee’s tenure of service as of Jan. 1 will determine the number of days they will be granted.
Eligibility is as follows:
Six month to five years will receive 10 days.
After six months, five days will be granted. Those days must be used before the end of the year.
Five years to 10 years will receive 12 days.
10 years to 15 years will receive 14 days.
15 years and over will receive 16 days.
Precinct 1 Commissioner Jack Wall stated the need for a standardized manual stating the specifications for culverts, cattle guards, etc. He said this would eliminate the need to find someone that has done the work before and knows the specifications. All of the commissioners were asked to put together their ideas of items that need to be in this manual.
Also discussed the possibility of a November election to determine if Coryell County will become part of the Fox Crossing Water District.
Coryell County was first included in the Middle Trinity during the 2001 state legislative session, but an election was never held. The legislation was amended in 2003 and Coryell along with other counties withdrew.
Local officials felt it would be better for the county to join Fox Crossing, after more thoruugh investigation.
Voters in Coryell and Mills counties will have to approve Coryell joining before it becomes reality.
Also discussed were the repairs to the annex, including tile and carpeting in the courtroom, driver’s license office and sheriff’s office.
The structural damage to the county jail was discussed. Sheriff Roger Faught said that because there are no eaves on the building, rain run-off has already caused structural damage that needs to be repaired before it becomes major.
The next Commissioners meeting will be Monday and the next workshop will be held on Jan. 19. Meetings begin at 9 a.m.
