Early voting ended Wednesday at 5 p.m. with only 190 registered voters taking advantage of it at the council chambers this past week. Election Day is Saturday at the Copperas Cove Civic Center, 1206 West Avenue B from 7 a.m.- 7 p.m.
Diaz, 34, is running unopposed for mayor. She will follow in her grandfather Joy Dewald’s footsteps. Dewald was mayor 1960-63. She will also be the youngest and the first female mayor Copperas Cove has ever had.
The position opened when Mayor Rodney Nauert resigned on Dec. 16 to run for state representative of District 59.
Bradi Diaz, city council member position one also resigned on the same night so that she could run for mayor. By law, both had to resign from their current positions before being able to file for the new position.
Running for city council position one are Bob Reeves, 49, chief operating officer and program manager for M Group in Temple and James Stockman, 49, manager of Clear Creek Meadows apartments.
Both men are Cove residents and both want to contribute to the city. Reeves said he wants to see the city continue to go in the direction it is now going. Stockman said he wants to give back to the community.
Mary Howell, City of Copperas Cove elections judge, will announce the unofficial results after the ballots are counted Saturday night.
