Managing editor - Even though the Coryell County Jail is sitting at capacity, with 11 more inmates housed in Comanche County, Sheriff Roger Faught resumed accepting class C misdemeanor arrested subjects. "We can't just ignore all arrests because we are full," said Faught. Faught said the jail currently houses 92 felons. "We are looking at private prisons in Limestone and Falls counties as well as up in the Panhandle to take some of our overload," said Faught. "I have to give all of these proposals to County Judge John Hull and to County Clerk Barbara Simpson to be approved first," said Faught. "Then we can go ahead and start making plans to transfer some inmates." The county is paying $35 a day to house the inmates in Comanche County. "We have been trying to limit the amount of class C misdemeanor arrest subject we take in recently," said Faught. "But that has proved to be impossible." Faught said most of the inmates currently housed are either waiting to go to trial or are waiting to be transferred into the Texas Department of Corrections system. "We just can't release most of these back out into the streets," said Faught. |
