Mel's Burger Joint has moved. After spending the past four and a three quarter years on Avenue D, they are now located on First St., between Ave. E and Ave F.
Mel and Don Steele have been busy decorating and renovating their new building at 302 S. 1st St. since the closing of their old restaurant Oct. 30.
"We have a lot of people telling us they need their burger fix," said Don Steele. "We should be open by the end of this week, so they can get it then."
The old Mel's used to seat 90 people, this new one will hold 165-175. "We serve over 200 people a day, so this was well needed," said Don Steele.
Mel Steele said they moved to a better location, with more parking. "We wanted better access for our customers."
"With Fort Hood growing, Copperas Cove will continue to grow," said Don Steele. "We decided we had to grow also to stay in tune with the customer."
Thursday, Mel's will host their first Copperas Cove Chamber of Commerce mixer at their new restaurant. "This is the first time we've ever done such a thing," said Don Steele. "We really want to use the mixer to show off the new place."
Both Mel and Don, huge Bulldawg fans, say that Copperas Cove has been good to them. "We chose this location to help revitalize downtown and to be more a part of the downtown experience."
