News editor - Weather in the Central Texas area has recently had a series of rapid ups and downs, but neither cold snaps or warming trends are doing much for the area.
With lows ranging from 51 to 20 degrees Fahrenheit, Cove has bundled up, but the chill may not be enough to ward off the bugs in the spring and summer seasons, says Lyle Zoeller of the Coryell County Extension office.
“We always like to think it did, but I’m not certain there’s an answer to that,” he said. “Yes, it ought to help out some,” added Zoeller.
He also cited feed expense for ranchers as a negative result of the cold weather and says that local farmers need the fields to dry up so that they can put down fertilizer.
However, warm weather days ranging in the high 70s in the midst of bone chilling cold weather can all be blamed on El Nino, reports KWTX Chief Meteorologist Rusty Garrett. The almost-balmy weather can be expected to return occasionally throughout the remainder of the winter season, he added.
