The business, identified as an American Legion Auxiliary Post, had opened to the public approximately a month ago. Based on numerous complaints from local citizens concerning possible illegal gambling at the business, officers were able to determine through investigation that illegal gambling activity was occurring inside the business on a regular basis.
As a result of the search, officers seized 42 eight-liners, approximately $9,000 in currency, one ATM machine, documentation and bank records of past activity at the business, a quantity of marijuana under two ounces and a controlled substance under one gram.
Arrested at the scene were Sharon Marie Nitzband, 40, of Kempner, on the charge of possession of gambling device, possession of marijuana under two ounces, possession of a controlled substance under one gram; Tiffany Leann Peavy, 19, of Copperas Cove, on the charge of possession of gambling device; Rosalind L. Smith, 60, of Killeen, on the charge of possession of gambling device.
