Singer/songwriter Cory Morrow, whose authentic brand of Texas country has made him a staple with Texas music radio stations and live audiences throughout the South, will perform a variety of his music at Saturday night’s performance.
Morrow,a Houston native, will showcase songs from all five of his albums, he said. “We’ll just meld them together. There will be some old favorites with ones never heard before,” he said.
He said, “I put the old songs in our show because I believe this can be one music scene that respects its past and yet has an eye to what’s going on right now.”
Morrow, who is excited about the planned performance, said he’ll try to be a spiritual motivator, getting people up on their feet, singing and dancing.
Morrow’s real interest in music began while in high school when his father brought him home a guitar from Mexico. “There was a guitar for sale in a border town for $20, and my dad said to the seller, ‘Flip a coin and if it’s tails, I get the guitar for free.’” The seller agreed and it landed on tails,” he said.
Morrow performs what has been dubbed as alternative country, or Texas country. His albums include Texas Time Travelin’, the self-titled Cory Morrow, Cory Morrow Live, Outside the Lines and The Man That I’ve Been. He also released an album with another Texas country artist, Pat Green, titled Songs We Wish We’d Written.
His 2002 album, Outside the Lines, was produced by Dixie Chick dad Lloyd Maines,
Morrow is set to release another album later this month. The new album, titled Full Exposure, consists of a live audio album capturing Morrow’s July 2002 concert at Austin’s Waterloo Park. The album contains three new studio tracks, produced by veteran producer Ray Kennedy (Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams.)
Morrow does not strive for national recognition; his goal instead is to “get this thing as big as it can get — as big as it’s supposed to get,” he said.
As for Saturday’s performance, Morrow said people should get there early. “It’s gonna be fun,” he said.
He also has no problem signing autographs. “We do those,” he said. Morrow will have a merchandise booth set up where up will sign autographs. Morrow also plans to enjoy the festival. “We’ll be out and about,” he said.
