Copperas Cove High School officials expect a little over 400 to graduate in Friday night’s ceremony at the Bell County Exposition Center.
Tuesday’s count in the counselor’s office noted 411 candidates for graduation expected to walk the stage shortly after the 7:30 p.m. start. Senior Counselor Carolyn Taylor notes this year’s class being slightly bigger than the 390 that graduated in 2002.
Principal Dr. George Willey, Valedictorian Kelly Lockhart and Salutatorian Nichole Vitucci will do most of the speaking in the ceremony, expected to last about an hour and a half with the CCHS band and choir also participating.
Lockhart graduates with a 5.07 grade point average and Vitucci is close behind at 4.93.
Willey says Sunday’s baccalaureate service was similar to what family and friends of the graduates should look for on Friday.
CCHS has held graduation in the domed facility for eight years.
“It’s the only facility in Central Texas that can handle the crowd and there’s about 10 that come for every graduate,” Willey said.
The class flower is the Forget Me Not, the song is “Good bye” – Jagged Edge, by R. Kelley and the school colors of royal blue and gold also serve as class colors. Willey says this reflects well on the class.
“These kids are an excellent class with great school spirit, the kind I wish I could put in a time machine and keep,” Willey said.
The graduating class is discussing buying clocks for the auditorium as a gift to the school.
