News editor - Coryell County sales tax rebates declined in the month of August, with Oglesby showing the greatest drop and Copperas Cove the least.
Cove was paid $249,482.14 this period, a drop of 1.38 percent from last year’s comparable payment of $252, 981. Oglesby’s payment of $761.77 was 23.60 percent less than last year’s payment of $997.16.
Neither Evant nor Gatesville fared much better. Evant dropped 5.48 percent with a sales tax rebate of $1,689.78, compared to last year’s payment of $1,787.87. Gatesville received a check for $81,704.05, down 14 percent from last’s year comparable payment of $95,012.86.
Cove’s neighbors to the east and west showed no decreases in sales tax rebates. Killeen’s rebates jumped slightly with its payment of $1,315,641.28, up 2.47 percent from last year’s payment of $1,283,829.92.
Kempner’s check of $1,565.55 went up 2.88 percent from last year’s payment of $1,521.64. Lampasas had the biggest percent jump this month with a $79,640.21, an increase of 6.66 percent from the prior year’s check of $74,665.06.
August sales tax rebates include local sales taxes collected in June by businesses that report monthly, and in April, May and June by quarterly filers, and reported to the comptroller in July.
Some cities may have changed tax rates, which would affect the comparison.
