A memorial service for Richard Lumpkins, 67, of Copperas Cove was held Aug. 27 at Clear Creek Baptist Church. Pastor Thomas Edwards officiated at the ceremony.
Lumpkins died Aug. 24 in Temple.
Born July 14, 1936, in Martin, Ky., Lumpkins retired from the U.S. Civil Service as a drug and alcohol counselor. He was a college instructor at Central Texas College in the nursing program. Lumpkins served 20 years in the U.S. Army, retiring in 1974 with the rank of SGT/E7. He served two tours in Korea and also served in Vietnam. Lumpkins had lived in the community since 1967 and was a member of Clear Creek Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher.
Lumpkins was preceded in death by his parents, Othur and Grace Lumpkins, and two sisters, Ruby Lumpkins and Eva Lee Lumpkins.
Lumpkins is survived by his wife, Patricia, of Copperas Cove; six sons, Bruce Lumpkins, Charlie Lumpkins and Edward Lumpkins, all of Copperas Cove, David Lumpkins of Round Rock, Michael Lumpkins of Tennessee Colony, and James Lumpkins of Kentucky; two daughters, Brenda Lumpkins of Williamson, W.Va. and Linda Porter of Copperas Cove; a brother, Charles Lumpkins of Clarksville, Tenn.; three sisters, Barbara Lumpkins of Florida, Julie Lumpkins of Kentucky and Pam Harshe of Dallas; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Clear Creek Baptist Church Grounds Fund.

A funeral for James Lewis Miller, 71, of Kempner will be held Aug. 29 at 11 a.m. at Clear Creek Baptist Church. Brother Thomas Edwards will officiate at the ceremony. Burial will follow at Clear Creek Cemetery in Kempner.
Miller died Aug. 25 in Harker Heights.
Born July 7, 1932, in the Gastonia, N.C., Miller was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a staff sergeant with Co. A, 15th Medical BN, 1st Cav Division. He was awarded the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, 4 Bronze Service Stars to the Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal Clasp, Bronze Three Loops and the Army Commendation Medal.
Miller is survived by his wife, Johanna, of Kempner; his mother, Ella Miller of Kings Mountain, N.C.; six daughters, Manuela Dillman of Copperas Cove, Kirsten Meyers of Killeen, Evelyn Workman of Kempner, Rosemary Pesina of Hillsboro, Ramona Harper of Hampton, Va. and Rebecca Holliday of Shelby, N.C.; two sons, Kenneth Miller and Mitchell Miller of North Carolina; a sister, Gaynell Spicer of Kings Mountain, N.C.; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family requests that memorials be made to Clear Creek Baptist Church.
