Lyon was born in Brownwood on Nov. 9, 1902, to Dr. Henry H. and Martha E. Burdick. She was raised and educated in Durango where she graduated from high school in 1921. She celebrated her 100 birthday on Nov. 10 at her home, with friends and family present. "The Good Lord is good to me," Lyon stated. "He let me have this wonderful birthday." Lyon had lived in Cove since 1924, when she moved here with her doctor father. She met and married her husband, Charles "Bill" Lyon, here. They were married on May 10, 1925, in Cove. Lyon said the greatest invention in her lifetime is electricity because it made her life easier, adding that she was the first or second person in Cove to have an electric refrigerator. "And I couldn't live without my air conditioner," she said. But Lyon would have gladly done without telemarketers. "I hate when people bother me on that dang telephone," she said. Living in Cove has been a positive experience, said Lyon. She described the town as friendly with good neighbors. "Everyone looked out for each other. If your kid misbehaved, you knew about it before they got home," she said. Her husband; parents; three brothers, Lester Burdick, Carmillus Burdick and Carter Burdick and one sister, Fannie Parnell, precede Lyon in death. She is survived by five daughters, Margueritte Watson of San Antonio, Zellah Hutchinson of Daytona Beach, Fla., Mary Lou Warren of Laurenceburg, Tenn., Janie Susan Nelson of El Paso and Margaret Simpson of Copperas Cove; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. The viewing will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at Crawford - Bowers. Memorials can be made to a charity of choice or the Vista Care Hospice, 819 S. 5th St., Temple, 76504. •Funeral services for Taylor Lauren Heffington were held at 10 a.m. on March 1 at Shepherd of The Hills Lutheran Church with the Rev.
