Garlick was born Dec. 18, 1916, in Arvada, Colo., and had lived in Cove since 1960. He completed 33 years of service to his country in 1980, first in the military and then in Civil Service work. His duty stations included the Solomon Islands and the Philippines during World War II; Germany twice; Korea; Ethiopia; Billings, Mont., Fort Huachuca, Ariz., Fort Lee, Va. and Fort Hood. Garlick had an interest in Indian culture and gave many lectures to school children on the subject. He was a collector of barbed wire and was one of the founders of the National Brick Collectors Association. He loved feeding his cats and birds, as well as making ceramics and caring for African violets with his wife, Maxine. He is survived by his wife; his son David Garlick and wife Jean of Pflugerville; his daughter Donna Mollenkam and husband Jerry of Macksville, Kan.; four grandcildren and five great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Scott & White Hospice, 2401 S. 31 Street, Temple, 76508. A graveside service for Thomas Joseph Datsko, 49, of Kempner, was held on June 24 at Kempner Cemetery. Datsko died June 18 in a Temple hospital. Born June 25, 1953, in Cleveland, Ohio, Datsko was reared and educated in Streetsboro, Ohio. He team drove long haul trucks with his brother for 10 years. Datsko was preceded in death by a brother, Don Jackson of Lampasas in 2002. Survivors include parents Joseph and Robbie Datsko of Kempner; a brother, Bernie Datsko of Stowe, Ohio; a sister, Carol Mercurio of Kempner. The family requests that memorials be made to For Who So Ever Will Ministries of Kempner. A funeral for Edward Joseph Strychalski, 44, of Lampasas, was held June 21 at Pidcoke United Methodist Church in Copperas Cove. Rev. Mike Kerzee officiated at the ceremony. Strychalski died June 17 at a Temple hospital. Born September 3, 1958, in Frankfurt, Germany, Strychalski was reared and educated in Copperas Cove. He was employed as an electrician for YZ Corporation for nine years. He was formerly employed at Atkinson Electric. Strychalski is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Lynn Strychalski and Amber Rose Strychalski, both of Lampasas; his father, Joseph Strychalski of Copperas Cove; three brothers, David Michael Strychalski of Austin, James Patrick Strychalski of Temple and Leonard William Strychalski of San Antonio. Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home of Copperas Cove was in charge of the arrangements. |
