- •• Larry Layne Anderson ••

A funeral for Larry Layne Anderson, 58, of Copperas Cove, will be held a Grace United Methodist Church in Copperas Cove on July 8 at 3 p.m. Brother John Hooser will officiate at the ceremony. Burial will follow at Kempner Cemetery in Kempner.
Anderson died at his residence on July 4.
Born in Feb. 4, 1945, in Ranger, Anderson married Carolyn Kattner on Dec. 14, 1968. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Gatesville. He was a member of the Texas Association of School Administrators, Association for Supervision & Curriculum Development, President of the Gatesville Exchange Club, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Experimental Aircraft Association and former president of Greater Killeen Association of Life Underwriters.
Anderson served in the U.S. Air Force from 1967 to 1972 as an officer/pilot. He was assigned as an aircraft commander of a C-123K for the 19th Special Operations Squadron in the Republic of Vietnam. He completed over 1100 combat sorties over hostile territory and received the U.S. Air Force Air Medal with 1st and 2nd Oak Leaf Clusters and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He also served as a captain and aircraft commander of a KC-135A Strato-Tanker in the Strategic Air Command.
Anderson's education career included positions at a Lometa ISD where he was social studies teacher and athletic director, Copperas Cove ISD where he taught earth science and was assistant coach and boys' athletic coordinator at Copperas Cove Junior High, assistant high school principal, high school principal and assistant superintendent at Gatesville ISD, and superintendent at Blooming Grove ISD.
Anderson is survived by his wife, a daughter, Dena Anderson of Austin, two sons, Bret Anderson and wife, Jodi of Kempner, Derek Anderson and his wife, Alyssa of Belton, a brother, Wayne Anderson of Horseshoe Bay, mother-in-law, Quieta Kattner of Copperas Cove, and two grandchildren.
The family request that memorials be made to VistaCare Hospice, 819 S. 5th St., Temple, Texas, 76504.

Funeral services for William A. Johnston, 54, of Copperas Cove are pending with the Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home.
Johnston died July 6 at a Fort Hood hospital.
