Copperas Cove Firefighters and Police Officers were thanked for their work during a luncheon on Saturday in remembrance of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
“While you may not think of yourself as a hero,” James Stockman, president of the Citizens Public Safety and Fire Association said. “It takes someone special to get up each morning and put your lives on the line to serve the citizens of this community.”
“This is why we wanted to show our appreciation to our first responders.”
The CPSFA held the second annual luncheon at the Fire Station, however, police officers that were on duty were also invited.
“We will be taking plates to the Police Department,” Cathy Stockman said. “Not everyone can get off, and we even wanted to thank the dispatchers.”
While not everyone was able to attend the luncheon, those who did were treated to brisket, barbecue beans, baked corn, salad, potato salad, cake and ice cream.
Copperas Cove Fire Department Shift Commander Skip Rippy said in a time for remembrance, it was also time to thank those locals for a job well done.
“This is a cause of remembrance for all service and certified citizens in public safety to remember the terroristic tragedy of 9/11,” Rippy said. “To paraphrase a common bumper sticker, We will never forget.”
